Home, 2023
HOME is a KIDS THRIVE creative exploration of children’s experiences during the Covid lock-downs of 2020 and 2021, and the role ‘home’ played as both a sanctuary and place of lock-down.
Grade 6 students at Newhaven Primary school used the visual arts to ‘map’ their physical environments and investigate what makes these places ‘home’. Made over a 6 month residency period in the first half of 2023, the Home project is about kids enshrining their pandemic experiences and insights. Made with paintings, drawings & collages created by the students, Lizzy Rich worked with Mick Green of Drift Media to create the stop motion animation that shares their stories.

HOME exhibited a site-specific, experiential performance for family and community - and also a creative record of children’s experiences of this challenging time. The video is held by the Wonthaggi and District Historical Society for community access in perpetuity, with an accompanying artwork on display at the Newhaven Primary school foyer.
